Hydraulic hose management and whole-machine re-hosing

Hose surveys, tagging and scheduled replacement, and whole-machine or whole-vessel re-hosing made up in our workshop.

We run hydraulic hose management programmes and whole-machine re-hosing across the UAE: we survey every hose on a crane, vessel or plant, tag and record it, then replace on a schedule with hose assemblies made up and pressure checked in our Sharjah workshop. Work covers ships, OSVs, cranes, construction plant and factory machines in all seven emirates.

We do not run mobile hose vans for single-hose call-outs. If you need one hose replaced today, a local hose shop will be faster and cheaper. Where we help is when the problem is all the hoses: a crane that bursts one every few weeks, a vessel preparing for a vetting inspection, or a fleet that wants a record of what is fitted and when it was replaced.

What a programme includes

  1. Survey. Every hose on the machine or vessel is inspected and recorded: location, function, size, hose type, fittings, length, date of manufacture where marked, and condition.
  2. Tagging. Each assembly gets a tag with a unique reference that links to the register.
  3. Condition grading. Each hose is graded: replace now, replace at next opportunity, or acceptable, with photos of the worst ones.
  4. Replacement plan and quote. A quoted plan, grouped by machine and priority, so you can replace in one visit or spread it across port stays.
  5. Make-up. Assemblies are made up in our workshop, usually within one or two days of the survey, and pressure checked before they leave.
  6. Fitting. Hoses fitted, routed, clamped and protected, then the system is bled, function tested and checked for leaks.
  7. Register update. The register is updated with replacement dates and the next due date, so the next survey starts from a record.

Hose and fittings we use

  • Hose types: SAE 100R1 and R2 and their EN 853 equivalents (1SN, 2SN), four-spiral 4SH and R13 to EN 856 for high-pressure and high-impulse lines, and hoses classified to ISO 18752 by pressure class where specified. Stainless steel braided and stainless-fitted options for exposed or corrosive locations.
  • Fittings: JIC 37 degree flare, BSP (parallel and taper), NPT, ORFS (O-ring face seal) and SAE code 61 and code 62 flanges, in carbon steel with corrosion-resistant plating or in stainless steel.
  • Protection: spiral guards, fire sleeves where requested, and abrasion sleeves on rubbing points.

The right hose depends on pressure, pressure spikes, temperature, bend radius and the fluid. Our hose size tool checks the bore needed for a given flow and velocity, which matters as much as the pressure rating: an undersized hose generates heat.

What we look for in a survey

  • Cracked, crazed or hardened outer covers from sun and heat
  • Exposed or rusting reinforcement wire
  • Weeping or corroded fittings and crimp ferrules
  • Kinks, twists and hoses bent tighter than their minimum bend radius at the fitting
  • Abrasion where hoses rub on each other or on structure
  • Blistering, which suggests the inner tube or cover has been damaged
  • Wrong hose types, such as a two-wire hose fitted where a high-impulse line needs a four-spiral hose
  • Missing date marks, which mean nobody knows how old the hose is

UAE conditions and hose life

UV and heat are the main enemies here. An exposed hose on a pedestal crane or a hatch cover sits in direct sun at deck temperatures well above air temperature, then cools at night, often in high humidity. Covers harden and crack, and once salt water reaches the wire reinforcement, it corrodes from the inside.

Many fleets set a maximum service life for hoses, replacing them on age as well as condition, and follow the hose maker’s guidance. Our guide on when to replace hydraulic hoses explains how to set that interval for your equipment.

Why whole-machine re-hosing pays

On an older crane or deck machine, hoses of the same age fail one after another. Each failure means an oil spill, a call-out, downtime and sometimes contaminated oil that damages pumps and valves. Replacing the full set at once costs more on the day but less across the year, and it gives you a known start date for every hose.

What drives the cost

The cost of a programme depends on the number of hoses, sizes and pressure classes, stainless or special fittings, access and scaffolding, and whether the work is done in one visit or several. A survey on its own can be quoted separately if you want the register first.

What to send for a fast quote

  • The machine or vessel and what it has on it (cranes, winches, hatch covers, plant)
  • Photos of the hose runs, and of hose markings and fittings where visible
  • Rough hose count, if known
  • Working pressure of each system
  • Emirate, vessel or site location, and when the equipment can be stopped

Re-hosing often goes with a crane hydraulics overhaul or deck machinery work. If a burst hose has put dirt into the system, see pumps and motors.

Questions

Can you replace one burst hose on my machine?

We are set up for whole-machine and whole-vessel re-hosing rather than single-hose call-outs. For one hose, a local hose shop will usually be quicker and cheaper.

How quickly can you re-hose a crane?

After the survey, hoses are usually made up in our workshop within one or two days. Fitting time depends on the crane and access, and for most cranes is a short visit.

Do you supply stainless steel fittings?

Yes. We offer stainless fittings and stainless-braided hose where corrosion or appearance matter, such as exposed decks and yachts.

Do you give a record of the hoses fitted?

Yes. Each hose is tagged and recorded in a register with type, size, fittings, date fitted and next due date, so the next inspection starts from facts.
