We carry out hydraulic repair and load testing across Ras Al Khaimah, for quarries, cement and industrial plants inland and for vessels and port equipment at Mina Saqr. RAK work leans heavily onshore: crushers, mobile plant, presses and power packs, alongside bulk carriers loading aggregate and cement at the port.
Why Ras Al Khaimah is different
Ras Al Khaimah’s economy rests on the Hajar mountains: limestone and aggregate quarries, cement plants, and the ceramics and building materials industries that use them. Much of that output leaves through Mina Saqr on bulk carriers, many of them geared ships with their own cranes and grabs.
This gives RAK a distinctive hydraulic picture. Quarry and cement plant equipment works in extreme dust and heat, so contamination-related pump and cylinder failures are common. Bulk carriers loading at Mina Saqr bring crane, grab and hatch cover defects. And the industrial zones have a broad mix of factories with presses, power packs and lifting equipment.
Where we work in Ras Al Khaimah
Mina Saqr (Saqr Port). The emirate’s main port, with bulk, break-bulk and container berths and the aggregate and cement export trade. Typical work: ship deck cranes and grab hydraulics on bulk carriers, hatch cover cylinders and power packs, steering gear, and port handling equipment. Small yards and marine businesses around the port add tugs, barges and supply craft.
Al Hamra and Al Jazeera Al Hamra industrial areas. Factories and workshops near the coast. Typical work: presses, power packs, industrial cylinders and valve repairs.
Al Ghail industrial area. Inland manufacturing and processing. Typical work: plant hydraulics, power packs, lifting equipment and machine cylinders.
Quarries. Quarries along the mountain foothills run excavators, wheel loaders, dump trucks, drill rigs and crushers. Typical work: excavator main pumps (often Kawasaki K3V or K5V, see Kawasaki pumps), boom, arm and bucket cylinders, swing and travel motors, and crusher hydraulics such as setting and tramp-release cylinders.
Cement plants. Kilns, mills, crushers, stackers and reclaimers with hydraulic drives, thrust systems and gates. Typical work: power packs, large cylinders, pumps and valves during planned kiln or mill shutdowns.
The dust problem
Quarry and cement dust is fine, abrasive and everywhere. It enters through breathers, damaged wipers and every opened fitting, and it wears pumps, valves and seals from the inside. A rebuilt pump fitted to a contaminated system will fail early.
So in RAK we pay particular attention to root cause:
- We inspect the failed part for contamination wear and tell you what we see.
- We recommend breather and filter upgrades where they are needed.
- We cap openings, fill through filters and recommend an oil sample after repair.
Our ISO 4406 oil cleanliness guide and oil cleanliness tool explain the codes your oil lab reports. Heat adds to the problem; see hydraulic overheating in UAE heat.
How work is organised in Ras Al Khaimah
- Component collection from quarries, plants and the port to our Sharjah workshop. Cylinders, pumps and valves are stripped, reported, repaired and bench tested there.
- On-site attendance for troubleshooting and shutdown work. Quarries and cement plants usually require site induction, PPE and permits to work; we send the team details in advance.
- Ship work at Mina Saqr, arranged with the agent, who books gate passes. We attend with tools and spares and plan around loading times.
- Load tests with water bags and calibrated load cells up to 150 t for ship cranes, plant cranes and lifting equipment.
Same day or next day attendance is typical for planned work once site access is arranged. Cylinder reseals typically take 3 to 7 working days after strip-down, longer if a rod needs re-chroming.
Equipment we see most in RAK
| Equipment | Typical work | Service |
|---|---|---|
| Excavator and loader cylinders | Reseal, rod repair | Cylinder repair |
| Excavator main pumps, swing motors | Rotating group and seals | Pumps and motors |
| Crusher and cement plant hydraulics | Power packs, cylinders, valves | Industrial hydraulics |
| Bulk carrier cranes and grabs | On-board repair, load test | Crane hydraulics |
| Hatch covers | Cylinders, power packs | Hatch covers and ramps |
| Plant re-hosing | Whole-machine hose replacement | Hose management |
What to send from Ras Al Khaimah
- Site and location: Mina Saqr berth, quarry or plant name, industrial area.
- Machine or vessel, with make, model and nameplate photographs.
- The fault, when it happens and how long it has been developing.
- Any recent oil analysis results.
- Shutdown dates or ship’s loading schedule.
We usually quote within one working day of photos and nameplate data. We focus on overhauls, load tests and planned shutdown work rather than single-hose call-outs; for one hose, a local hose shop will be quicker.
